Rutgers-Newark
Athletic Facilities

THE GOLDEN DOME
A landmark building on the campus, The Golden Dome Athletic Center
is the headquarters for athletics and recreation at Rutgers-Newark.
The geodesic dome main arena seats 2,000. A two-court auxillary/recreation
gym provides additional practice space for Scarlet Raiders teams.
Men's and women's basketball and volleyball play all of their home
contests in The Golden Dome.
The Golden Dome also features a 7,000-square-foot fitness center,
a 25-yard swimming pool, three racquetball courts, a conference
area and locker rooms. Varsity locker rooms, the athletic training
room and equipment/laundry services are located on the lower level
of The Golden Dome.
Finished in 1977, The Golden Dome was the first major recreation
and athletics facility constructed on the Newark campus. The auxillary
gym, pool, racquetball courts, conference rooms and additional lockerroom
were added in 1992.
THE GOLDEN DOME COURTS
The varsity tennis teams play on The Golden Dome Courts. The five
composition courts were completely resurfaced in 2001, giving the
Scarlet Raiders one of the finest home facilities in the region.

ALUMNI FIELD
Home to Scarlet Raider men's and women's soccer and softball teams,
Alumni Field is a natural turf facility which will undergo a major
renovation this summer.
State-of-the-art artificial turf will replace natural grass, giving
Rutgers-Newark a much-needed year-round surface for athletics and
intramurals. The Scarlet Raider softball team will enjoy a new year-round
practice and playing facility while the soccer pitch will be leveled
and completely turfed. A new scoreboard and improved spectator facilities
are planned in the project.
Lights were added for night contests and practices in 1999 in a
renovation wich included installation of a quarter-mile jogging
track. Located immediately across the street from The Golden Dome,
Alumni Field gives Scarlet Raider teams an excellent venue just
steps from classrooms and dormitories.
RIVERFRONT STADIUM
Home of the Newark Bears professional baseball team, Riverfront
Stadium serves as the site for home contests for the Scarlet Raider
baseball team. Located just five blocks from Alumni Field, the 6,200-seat,
$30 million ballpark was opened in 1999.
